Country/Bluegrass legend Mac Wiseman appears SAT, 8/29 at Great Escape Charlotte Avenue

Mark you calendars, country and bluegrass fans!

Continuing a great summer of special events, The Great Escape announces an upcoming appearance of Country Music Hall Of Fame living legend Mac Wiseman at The Great Escape's Charlotte Avenue location on Saturday, August 29th at 1:00 p.m.
Wiseman will do a 30 minute live performance and a book signing for his newly-published "Mac Wiseman: All My Memories Fit For Print." (His book signing and meet-and-greet with fans will follow the live performance.) This book is currently on sale for $29.99 at our Madison & Bowling Green stores, as well as the Charlotte Avenue Superstore location.

Mac Wiseman has had an unprecedented career, stretching from the 1940s to the present: first as a broadcaster, then as a musician for pioneers Buddy Starcher, Molly O'Day, Flatt & Scruggs and Bill Monroe, and finally as a solo singer, hitting his stride with the ballad, "Davy Crockett" and "Jimmy Brown The Newsboy."  Behind the scenes, Mac produced acts like Reno & Smiley, Cowboy Copas and Bonnie Guitar. After many years in this role, he reemerged as a college circuit favorite; was the first bluegrass artist touring Europe, recorded with Big Band leader Woody Herman, helped originate 1990's Groovegrass Boyz with Doc Watson, Del McCoury & Bootsy Collins, cut new Millenium discs with John Prine, Charlie Daniels, Merle Haggard and did the last recordings with buddy Johnny Cash.

FRI, 8/7: 1,000+ Jazz LPs & 700+ Metal CDs go into stock at Great Escape Charlotte Avenue

A reminder- 

The Great Escape Charlotte Avenue Superstore will be putting out a large group of top-notch Metal CDs & Jazz LPs TOMORROW, 8/7, when we open our doors at 10 a.m.

A large percentage of the Jazz LPs are in really good condition- and include lots of promo & white label promo labels and mono pressings- and a large assortment of artists and good diversity of jazz styles, mainly from the '50s & '60s. (There are also over fifty 10" LPs from the 1950s on labels such as Pacific Jazz, Roost, Clef, Norgran & others.) 

Also hitting the racks will be 700+ import & domestic CDs from the rock, prog & metal genres (the latter of which includes heavy metal, thrash metal, tech metal and power metal) , which are also in great shape, for the most part. (Many were probably only played once, since their previous owner was a reviewer for various metal magazines.) Artists include Iced Earth, Amorphis, Manowar, Yngwie J. Malmsteen, Kemelot, Dream Theatre, Strapping Young Lad, Annihilator & many, many more! (Collection includes titles that range in popularity from the extremely obscure to Top 40 chart toppers.)

Exceptional Jazz LP & Metal CD collections go into stock FRI, 8/7 at Great Escape Charlotte Avenue

Jazz vinyl and rock/heavy metal CD fans and collectors take note- 

The Great Escape on Charlotte Avenue has recently purchased some great music that we will be offering for sale at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 7th.

The jazz vinyl is a life-long collection of over 1,000 jazz LPs from the estate of one of our long-time customers- and consists of records mainly from the 1950s & 1960s, many of which were acquired by this collector when they were new. It features a large assortment of artists and a wide range of jazz styles.  The records are overall in really nice shape, with many of them looking like they have had very little play. 

A large number of these records are mono pressings, and quite a few have the Deep Groove record labels. This collection has more promo & white label promo label pressings than we have seen in a Jazz collection in a very long time. There are also more than 50 ten inch LPs from the 1950s on labels such as Norgran, Clef, Roost, Pacific Jazz & others.

We also recently acquired over 700 CDs from a music critic who wrote reviews for many prominent metal magazines. Consisting of both import & domestic titles, there are numerous rock, prog & metal releases, which are all in excellent condition. The collection ranges from the obscure to the Top-40; there is something for any rock lover in this group. 

So, make your plans to come by The Great Escape Superstore soon, located at 5400 Charlotte Avenue in Nashville, Tennessee. The fun begins when we open at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 7th.
