First of all, we wanted to say thanks to everyone who made it out for both our Kid's Day Celebration and our Black Friday 3-day sale recently; we've had a great time celebrating our 35th anniversary this year- and it's all due to your support.

Now we wanted to let you know about the latest event taking place as the celebration continues:

We'll start the sale at 8 p.m. Sunday night (after closing at 7 p.m. as usual, we'll reopen one hour later) with dozens of boxes of premium comic book titles (regularly priced between $2.99 - $9.99) at only $1 each.

A large percentage of these are in great condition (having never been read before)- and many are bagged and boarded (making them even bigger bargains).

Since the sale lasts for four full hours, you'll have plenty of time to shop in 1,000s & 1,000s of $1 comics (which will be restocked regularly during sale hours- so you might want to plan on staying awhile- or coming back after your initial visit).

Our first ever Kids Of All Ages Day celebration is this SAT, 11/17 at The Great Escape Charlotte Avenue. (From 9 a.m. - 9 p.m.)

This festive event will include free $1 gift certificates for all who attend, free drawing lessons & workshops by creators Jason Miller and Guy Gilchrist (Nancy/Muppets cartoonist; his segment will be videotaped), free comic book grab bags (up to 6 free age appropriate comics for those who attend both the Miller & Gilchrist programs), a huge $1 comics blowout sale (premium issues originally priced between $2.99-$9.99) and drawings for gift certificates of larger amounts.

Following their individual programs, Miller will sign free copies of his comic, "Intrinsic" for fans age 12 & up and Gilchrist will conduct a question-and-answer segment, critique portfolios and do individual sketches of Nancy & Sluggo, Big Bird, Kermit The Frog, etc.

We'll have thousands & thousands of premium back issues (ordinarily priced between $2.99-$9.99) that we were planning on offering as dollar comics- but we decided instead to slash the prices on them this Sunday to only 50¢ each!

After closing up at 7 p.m. (as usual), we'll reopen our doors at 8 p.m., giving you a full four hours to shop in dozens of boxes of 50¢ comic books that have never before been offered at prices this low at The Great Escape Bowling Green. (Many are bagged and boarded- making them even better values- and many are in like-new condition, having never been read before.)

FREE STUFF, ENTERTAINING & EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS and a SENSATIONAL COMIC BOOK SALE

SAT, 11/17 at THE GREAT ESCAPE CHARLOTTE AVE. 5400 Charlotte Ave. 9 a.m. - 9 p.m.

Our SENSATIONAL COMIC BOOK SALE begins when doors open at 9 a.m. (1 hour early) with a great selection of comic books marked down to $1 each (previously priced from $2.99-$9.99). These issues (never before discounted) include a variety of titles, including superheroes, action/adventure series and titles appropriate for younger children, including Disney, Warner Brothers characters, Archie, etc.

At 10 a.m. comic book writer/editor Jason Miller presents “CONSTRUCTING COMICS: HOW COMICS ARE MADE, FROM SENTENCE TO SMASH”- an engaging discussion about the history of comic books, how scripts get written, and how a comic book page is brought together in its many layers (script, roughs, pencils, ink, colors, balloons, etc.). Get a sense of how these comic strips and books are actually made! Following this program, Miller will sign free copies of his comic book “Intrinsic #1” for fans age 12 & up. (He is the creator of Intrinsic’s main character, Ishmael Stone.) Everyone attending the program gets a free grab bag containing 3 age-appropriate comics (“Scooby Doo”, “Superman Family” & “Spiderman” are examples of what may be included in grab bags).

At 12:30 p.m., the comic book sale shuts down temporarily to prepare for the videotaping of a program by GUY GILCHRIST, artist for the daily newspaper strip “Nancy”. (Previously Gilchrist did the art work for the daily strip “Jim Henson’s Muppets”.) Following a workshop of free drawing lessons for aspiring comic artists (attendees should bring paper and pencils), Gilchrist will do a question-and-answer segment. This is a highly entertaining program and we strongly recommend that you attend- whether you’re interested in learning to draw comics or not. Attendees for this workshop will also receive a free grab bag of age-appropriate comic books. After the program is finished, Gilchrist will be available at approximately 3 p.m. to critique portfolios and do individual sketches of Nancy & Sluggo, Big Bird, Kermit The Frog, etc.

The $1 Comic Book sale resumes at 3 p.m. and continues until closing time (9 p.m.).

ADMISSION TO BOTH THE JASON MILLER AND GUY GILCHRIST PROGRAMS IS FREE- and attendees get a total of up to 6 free comic books by attending both programs.
