18th and 19th if you love movies.
“Whether you are a serious student of the art of movie making or just a fan, you won’t want to miss the showing of one of the world’s great collections of DVDs, books, magazines, and lobby cards”, according to Gary Walker, owner of The Great Escape.
Selections from the collection, which represents a lifetime labor of love to the late Neil Barker, Jr., will be offered for sale in a special two-day event at The Great Escape’s Louisville location at 2433 Bardstown Road.
Highlighting the collection are more than 7,000 DVDs, a large number of which are boxed sets. The selection is notable for its focus on the 1950s through 1970s classic films, as well as a wide array of television series from the same era. Many rarities and out-of-print titles are included.
A large number of magazines, ranging from the 1940s to the present, are included. Popular fan magazines (with titles like Screen Stories, Movie World, etc.) are represented, and a variety of esoteric titles on filmmaking and foreign publications contribute to the collection.
Books, featuring biographies of both actors and directors, genre-specific titles, scholarly critiques, and more, will be offered for sale.
Overwhelming in both size and content, the Neil Barker, Jr., Movie Collection will be offered for sale Saturday, June 18th from 10 am to 9 pm and Sunday, June 19th from 11 am to 7 pm.
