Letter from the company founder, Gary Walker

Dear Valued Customer,

Thanks for all the kind words and memories about The Great Escape’s Broadway store, the closing of which has come as a shock to many of our long-time customers, former and current employees, and others in the community. We are very sad to leave the Midtown location we have enjoyed these last 33 years. And yes, the decision to move is based completely on an extreme rent increase which was presented to us several years ago (at the peak of condo-building and real estate speculation in Nashville). We did try to relocate within the area, but the expense of real estate and our inability to find a place of the right size and parking availability led us to this decision.

Again, we had no desire to close our flagship store, and we can only hope that most (if not all) of you all will make the 10 minute drive to our Charlotte location where you will find ample FREE parking, wider aisles, and a broader selection of both full-priced and bargain merchandise than any of our stores have offered in the past.

We would also welcome anyone to send us your memories, your photos, and anything else you want as we try to prepare a memorial to our Broadway store.

Thanks again for all of your support. Record & comics shops are disappearing every year (and we are both!), but we are committed to the future and look forward to creating new memories at our new & improved Charlotte Avenue location.

Sincerely,

Gary Walker

Founder
